Zach Daum Wins at Doe Run with POWRi National Midget League/Xtreme Outlaw Midget Series

Belleville, IL. (7/21/23) Zach Daum would use experience and throttle control to earn the debut victory at Doe Run Speedway on Friday Night with the POWRi National Midget League, running in conjunction with the Xtreme Outlaw Midget Series presented by Toyota, capturing his twenty-second career league victory in an action-packed twenty-five lap feature event.

Early on-track competition with twenty-seven solid entries in the POWRi National Midget League running in conjunction with the Xtreme Outlaw Midget Series would see Joe B Miller start the action off with a track-record quick qualifying time of 11.229-second lap as Daniel Whitley, Andrew Felker, and Jade Avedisian each would earn heat racing wins as Corbin Rueschenberg would earn the semi-feature victory.

Setting the feature field would find high-point qualifier Andrew Felker roll an invert of zero during Intermission to set the front row of himself and Jade Avedisian. Competing for the prized position as the green flag flew would see Jade Avedisian gaining the initial advantage on the opening lap over Daniel Whitley, Gavin Miller, Taylor Reimer, and Andrew Felker who all raced inside the top five.

Restarting after an early lap-two caution, Daniel Whitley would slide the leading Jade Avedisian for the preferred position in turns one and two to overtake for the top spot as Gavin Miller attempted to follow with Taylor Reimer and Joe B Miller all staying within striking distances.

Returning the favor on lap nine, Avedisian would once again fly into the leading position by using momentum into turns three and four to get back by Daniel Whitley as Taylor Reimer and a quickly gaining Joe B Miller battled for the final podium placement at the one-third marker of the thirty-lap feature.

Flying past the halfway point in the main event, Jade Avedisian would continue to show the way of the field with Zach Daum racing into the runner-up spot with Daniel Whitley, Joe B Miller, Gavin Miller, Taylor Reimer, Karter Sarff, Andrew Felker, Trey Marcham, and Branigan Roark residing inside the running top-ten.

Bunching the field back together for a late-race and drama-filled restart with six laps to go, Jade Avedisian attempted to hold the top line as Zach Daum gained on a steady low-line coming to the final lap.

Using a pristine final lap high-side pass, Zach Daum would emerge victorious in the thirty-lap feature event to earn his first feature win of 2023 with the POWRi National Midget League as Jade Avedisian would finish runner-up after leading twenty-two laps.

“I had already been moving around searching for the fastest line and just kind of ran everywhere to not show my hand to Jade out front, I wanted to make my move in one swoop to not let her get back by me,” said Zach Daum in the Doe Run Missouri victory lane celebrations. Adding, “That was technical and that was fun, the throttle pedal goes both ways and sometimes you just have to finesse it through the corners. I came here and ran a micro when my dad was still driving me to the races and this place is still just as fun.”

Staying close after leading six early laps Daniel Whitley would finalize the podium finishers with Taylor Reimer tracking down the front to finish fourth as Gavin Miller rounded out the POWRi National Midget League top-five finishers at Doe Run Speedway running in conjunction with the Xtreme Outlaw Midget Series.
