Belleville, IL. (10/4/23) The Meents family is excited to welcome Driven 2 Save Lives as the presenting sponsor for the 19th Annual Charlene Meents Memorial. Driven 2 Save Lives was created in 2016 by the Indiana Donor Network to promote organ and tissue donation during the 100th running of the Indianapolis 500.
When Bryan Clauson, winner of the 2014 Charlene Meents Memorial, tragically lost his life later in 2016, his choice to be an organ donor helped save five lives and his tissue donation helped countless others. Following Bryan’s tragedy and his choice to be a donor hero, Driven 2 Save Lives expanded its presence into dirt racing. Now in 2023, the Charlene Meents Memorial will help spread the word about the importance of organ and tissue donation.
Organ donation means a lot to the Meents family and their close friends. Jerry’s sister was a double lung recipient. Thanks to someone’s decision to be an organ donor, Jerry’s sister got to spend several additional precious years with her children and grandchildren. The family also has several other friends who were given extra years with their loved ones because someone made the choice to be an organ donor. You can learn more about Driven 2 Save Lives at https://driven2savelives.org or via social media at @Driven2Save.
The Meents family would like to thank Richard and Jennifer Marshall with Priority Aviation Services for their longtime support of the Charlene Meents Memorial. Over the past eight years, Priority Aviation has helped make it possible for thousands of extra dollars to be passed out during each year’s event. What started as a one-time sponsorship quickly grew into several years of amazing support. Richard, Jennifer, and Priority Aviation will always be a special part of Charlene Meents Memorial's history.
Another exciting addition to the 19th Annual Charlene Meents Memorial is the inclusion of junior sprints in both night’s programs. In addition to midget racing, one of Charlene’s passions was seeing new people enter our sport. What better way to honor that passion than to welcome the future of racing to this year’s event. Friday’s program will pay a minimum of $300 to the A-main winner with $50 to start, while Saturday will see the winner take home at least $500 and $75 to start the A-main. A full breakdown of the purse will be available soon.
The Meents family would like to thank all the sponsors and supporters who have made this event so successful over the past 18 years and look forward to keeping it growing for years to come.
With bonus money, prizes, and merch also up for grabs for all competitors plus heat race winners, the highest competitor in passing points, non-transfers, hard-chargers, as well as lap sponsors, and a $ 5,000 payday to the midget feature winner Saturday night all the top stars and cars should flock at I-44 Riverside on October 13-14.
