Belleville, IL. (4/20/24) Running in support of the Second Annual Rod End Supply Open Wheel Classic at I-70 Speedway, the POWRi 305 Sprint Series would witness Jay Russell claiming the season-debuting feature victory in thrilling twenty-lap action.
Starting the night in Odessa Missouri would see Jacob Dye and Jay Russell each earn heat racing victories with Jack Thomas attaining the high-point qualifier award.
Blazing into the feature green flag racing would find third-starter Jay Russell out-duel front-row starters Thomas and Dye out of the first pair of corners as Russell would blast to the preferred position with the field calculating for spots behind the leader.
“You don’t know where everyone is at on the track and you have to keep going until you see the checkered flag, then I always take one extra just to make sure,” said the victorious Jay Russell. Adding, “I was a little doubtful earlier about the track, but I think this place was beautiful tonight. You could run top, bottom, middle and I even think I was diamonding the corners too.”
Earning his first career victory in the POWRi 305 Sprint Division, Jay Russell would outduel second starter and runner-up placement Jacob Dye to capture the feature win. Speedy pole-sitter Jack Thomas would clinch third as hall-of-famer Randy Martin finished fourth with Mike Trent rounding out the top-five finishers for the POWRi 305 Sprint Series feature event at I-70 Speedway.
