POWRi DII Midgets Set For Opener At Lincoln IL Speedway
Point Funds & Contingencies Announced For Midget Class
Belleville, IL – The Lucas Oil POWRi Division II Illini Midget Series will kick off this Friday, April 15th at Lincoln Speedway. Korey Weyant of Springfield, Illinois took the checkers back in October, going down in history as the winner of the first ever POWRi Lucas Oil D II-sanctioned midget race. The ILLINI Racing Series will be celebrating their 25th year of operation in 2016 as they join forces with POWRi and race under the POWRi banner.
At Lincoln Speedway, the Midget class will have sponsorship from Nutech Seed, much like the Lightning Sprints a year ago. In addition to a $7,000 point fund available to POWRi members that decide to run for national points, a separate point fund will be available for just the Lincoln Speedway events.
Lincoln Speedway will also continue the Conklin Agrovantage Front Row Challenge, as it had last season. It gives the first place starter a chance to start at the tail and take a sizable prize. It will start at $400 on opening night and grow $100 each week until the cold hard cash is claimed. If the pole position starter does not take the challenge, the second place starter gets the opportunity and so on.
This will be the season opener for Lincoln Speedway under new management from Bob Sargent and Track Enterprises. The Illini Midgets will then return to Jacksonville Speedway on Friday, April 22nd appearing alongside the Lucas Oil POWRi National Midget Series and the Speedway Motors POWRi 600cc Outlaw Micro Series. On Saturday, April 23rd the D II Midgets will then follow both the National Midgets and the Outlaw Micros to Macon Speedway, rounding out the month of April.
