MONROVIA, Ind. – After encountering issues with both of his engines this weekend at Jacksonville (Ill.) Speedway, Justin Peck has teamed with Hard Eight Racing for the upcoming “Jason Leffler Memorial” at Wayne County Speedway in Wayne City, Ill on October 21. The one-race-only deal with Jon Kantor will pair a team needing a driver and a driver needing a team for midget racing’s top-paying race in tribute to one of midget racing’s greatest drivers.
Hard Eight Racing, based in Tulsa, Okla., has recently fielded a midget on a part-time basis for Jonathan Beason, who scored a preliminary night feature victory and subsequent eighth-place finish in the Saturday championship feature at the 2014 Chili Bowl Midget Nationals for the team. Additionally, micro sprint standout Frank Flud has driven for the team on several occasions, but Flud is unavailable for the coming weekend, opening the door for a different driver in their second entry.
Peck, a Monrovia, Ind. native, hurt engines on consecutive nights at Jacksonville Friday and Saturday, though he was able to persevere on Saturday and earn the POWRi National victory, keeping a stranglehold on the runner-up spot in that series' point standings heading into the final event. In last season’s Leffler Memorial, Peck’s heat race run from sixth to second, followed by a qualifier victory, put him on the pole for the 40-lap, $20,000-to-win main event. However, suspension issues early in the race kept him from contending from the victory. For this year’s USAC/POWRi co-sanctioned event, Peck will be piloting the No. 8K for Hard Eight, alongside Beason in the team’s No. 8J.
Peck would like to thank Dura Coat Products, Stanton Racing Engines, Factory Kahne, DRC Chassis, Simpson Race Products, Lucas Oil, Keizer Wheels, Hoosier Racing Tire, Saldana Racing Products, Thomas Railroad Construction, Pit Stop BBQ & Grill, Kwik Change Products, and Spider Graphix, as well as his parents, crew, and all of his fans for their continued support.
