Macon, IL – Leading candidate for the POWRi Lucas Oil National Midget League Rookie of the Year and championship contender, Logan Seavey, captured his second career victory with the League in the Third Annual Rich Camfield Memorial at Macon Speedway. The Third Annual Rich Camfield Memorial honors the late Rich Camfield, a tremendous supporter of midget racing.
Suffering misfortune on lap one of the feature, Seavey stumbled in turns three and four, stalled and collected Daniel Robinson. Restarting at the tail of the field, Seavey had his work cut out for him, as a stout front row of Zach Daum and Tucker Klaasmeyer lead the field. With the early advantage, Klaasmeyer fended off Daum and a duo of Clauson-Marshall entries with Tyler Courtney and Justin Grant.
With eight laps out of 30 completed, the yellow flew for the tangled machines of Zane Hendricks and Austin O’Dell in turns one and two. Returning to racing, Klaasmeyer held off and battled the duo of Clauson-Marshall entries trying to stay out front. Two laps later the red would be displayed as Zeb Wise got upside down off turn two, collecting Jake Neuman.
Returning to racing, both Courtney and Grant were able to work past Klaasmeyer, with Courtney overtaking Grant for the top position. Up to this point, Seavey had worked his way back into the top ten. Battling his way back into the top three, when sliding Daum for the third position, wheels were banged, resulting in Daum taking a tumble in turn two. The red was displayed and Daum was done for the evening.
With 14 laps completed, a battle amongst the top three ensued with Seavey challenging Grant for second and then Courtney for the lead. Battling for position, Courtney and Seavey traded positions until Seavey secured the top spot off turn two. In the final half of the race, Seavey enduring two more cautions and a relentless-to-the-end Courtney. Seavey held the top spot by a fraction of a second over Courtney to earn his second-career POWRi Lucas Oil National Midget League victory. Tyler Courtney took second with Clauson-Marshall teammate Justin Grant in third. Terry Babb finished fourth, while Andrew Felker rounded out the top five.
“I’ve just got to thank Flea and Corey for giving me an awesome car and my car owners Jeff Taylor and Rick Young,” said Logan Seavey. “We had that spin early on and then came back through the field. We’ve been good every time we came here. We had engine problems the last time, but the guys had it on point tonight.”
“He ran a really good race,” commented Tyler Courtney. “He found the top before everyone else, so congrats to him. Big thanks to Tim and Rizzy, they give us really good racecars night in and night out. It sucks to finish second, but really good racing here tonight.”
“Tim gave me a great racecar there,” stated Justin Grant. “This 39BC is always a rocket ship and if I can point it in the right direction, it’s usually pretty good. Always fun running this car and coming to Macon and thanks to the fans for coming out.”
