INDIANAPOLIS, In. (September 26, 2017) - Korey Weyant wrapped up a championship season with the POWRi Lucas Oil WAR Sprint League last weekend at Lucas Oil Speedway in Wheatland, Missouri. The Springfield, Illinois driver qualified for all three feature events over the weekend against a 60-car field to clinch his first title with the league in his Weeble's Bar and Grill/Tosti's Transmission/Ealey Automotive Eagle with Automotive Machine power.
Weyant racked up an impressive list of stats during the 2017 season including 5 wins, 11 top 5's, 13 top 10's, and he qualified for all 20 feature events on the POWRi Lucas Oil WAR Sprints schedule. He extended his lead on the all-time win list to 12 total WAR wins.
"I've won championships before, but I've never wanted to win one as badly as the WAR Championship this year," said Weyant, "The camaraderie in the pits between drivers and teams makes this honor that much more special on top of the hard work my team has put in keeping us in contention all season. It just makes it all the more satisfying to pull off the championship for them."
Being a fourth-generation race car driver, when asked about his future plans, Weyant spoke highly about his family and what is best for them. "I'd love to come back to defend the title in 2018 and go back-to-back, but I also have two boys that are itching to race that I need to start thinking about," said Weyant, "I want to make sure the Weyant legacy continues, and the next generation is about ready to start."
