INDIANAPOLIS, In. (October 4, 2017) - 19-year-old Tyler VanToll has been declared the 2017 POWRi Lucas Oil Division II Midget League Champion after an intense points battle against runner-up Jack Routson came to an end with VanToll on top by ninety points. The Belleville, Illinois native and college student racked up 6 wins, 15 top 5's, and 20 top 10's during the 26-race season schedule to secure his first POWRi Championship in his Spike/MWR Technology/Esslinger Ecotec.
VanToll began racing at age 10 in go-karts and eventually graduated to micros. With his lifelong dreams of racing national midgets financially out of reach, he embarked on mastering the Division II midget as his next step out of the micro class. 2017 was Vantoll's second season in a D-II midget, and the championship was his goal.
"We started out with a very dominant season early in the year, but it quickly began falling apart after we kept having mechanical issues," said VanToll, "We fought those issues all year, but my family and I never gave up and we came out on top. I have to thank them and my sponsors for this championship. I had so many chances to give up this year but I've never wanted something this bad. Never give up, chase your dreams, work hard and your dreams will become reality!"
