INDIANAPOLIS, IN. (October 10, 2017) - For the 2017 season, the POWRi Lucas Oil WAR Sprints were split into two regions, one region based out of Missouri and another based out of Illinois. But, one driver had a goal to win both championships from the start.
Korey Weyant has been named the 2017 POWRi Lucas Oil WAR East Champion after wrapping up his season with a fifth-place finish at "Sprint Mania" in Fairbury, Illinois for the finale of the WAR East schedule at Fairbury American Legion Speedway. Weyant was also crowned the POWRi Lucas Oil WAR Sprint League Champion in late September. He is the first champion in league history to sweep both WAR regions.
Between competing in both regions, Weyant accumulated 6 WAR wins, 17 top 5's, and 21 top 10's in his Weeble's Bar and Grill/Tosti's Transmission/Ealey Automotive Eagle with Automotive Machine power. He extended his lead on the all-time win list to 12 total WAR wins over Chris Parkinson with 8 wins, then Casey Shuman and Mitchell Moore are tied with 7 wins each.
"It meant a lot to me and the team/my family to win the POWRi Lucas Oil WAR Championship, and then to back it up with the WAR East Championship makes all of our hard work and long travels well worth it," said Weyant, "It just puts a cap on one of my best seasons in my career racing with the best series and drivers around each night. Challenges came with the higher purses for the WAR East races because it brought in a lot of big talent and just makes you have to compete at a higher level. Which makes me proud we achieved what we did with all of the variables. I couldn't have asked for a better season to have than the one we had this year."
