BELLEVILLE, IL. (December 12, 2018) – Performance Open Wheel Racing, Inc. is adding another layer to their always-expanding brand with the addition of the Border Tour Sprints to the POWRi sanctioning body in 2019. A newly-formed series, the POWRi Lucas Oil Border Tour Sprints presented by Griffin’s Propane will feature the non-wing 360 sprint cars in an eight-race series at the Vado Speedway Park in New Mexico.
Anticipated for a March 2019 unveiling, the Vado Speedway Park located in Vado, New Mexico is currently under construction, but will ultimately shape into a 3/8th-mile semi-banked clay oval. In a time where new race tracks are few and far between, Royal Jones and his staff have stepped up to deliver a brand new state-of-the-art facility to the New Mexico dirt track racing scene.
The POWRi Lucas Oil Border Tour Sprints presented by Griffin’s Propane will debut in 2019 as an eight-race series with all eight events held at the Vado Speedway Park. Each race will feature a purse of $1,500 to win and $200 to start, with an overall points fund of $7,000 including a $1,500 check to the inaugural series champion.
A headlining series finale is already scheduled and will take place on Thanksgiving weekend with the inaugural “Turkey Bowl.” A two-day showdown at the Vado Speedway Park, the 2019 season will conclude with a Friday night show offering $2,000 to win and $200 to start, with Saturday’s finale paying $3,000 to win and $300 to start.
“We are excited to continue working with Casey Shuman and POWRi to bring the Border Tour Sprints to Vado Speedway Park,” said Vado’s General Manager, Rue Stone. “The timing of this could not be any better, and we are looking forward to a thrilling 2019 season!”
The addition of the Border Tour Sprints only expands the growing presence of the POWRi Lucas Oil brand in the sprint car world. The Border Tour Sprints joins the WAR Sprint League, Elite Non-Wing Sprints, New Mexico 305 Sprints, UMSS, and Northern Renegade, under the POWRi Sprint Car banner in 2019.
Along with presenting sponsor, Griffin’s Propane, this adventure would not be possible without the support of Mesilla Valley Transportation and Hoosier Tire. The official 2019 schedule with dates for all eight races will be released in the coming weeks as it is finalized.
