Pocahontas, Illinois, chauffeur Zach Daum was victorious Friday night at Valley Speedway. But it wasn’t racing a POWRi Midget. Instead Daum the multiple-time POWRi Midget Champ would pace the field winning a wire to wire showdown over Nixa driver Wesley Smith racing in the POWRi Valley Outlaw Sprint Series. The victory however was no cakewalk for the veteran driver as Smith, a two-time winner already at Valley this season winning in sprints and midgets hounded Daum throughout the Feature in the Helm #12.
After a late caution resulted in a green, white, checker, finish, Daum beat Smith to the line by a half a car length spoiling Wesley’s shot at winning three straight features at the Grain Valley Oval. Completing the top 5 on this beautiful night for racing was Kory Schudy in third. The Springfield racer and 2018 POWRi West Midget Champ was driving once again for owner Jon Sawyer, but this time in a brand new sprint car for 2019 after racing together previously the last three years in the JSR #28 Midget.
While former POWRi WAR Sprint Champ Chris Parkinson would finish 4th, and 2018 POWRi Valley Sprint Champ Chad Goff would round out the top 5. A great field of 28 Sprint Cars checked into Dennis Shrout’s pit area Friday. While Dylan Kadous, Goff, Schudy, and Daum, would take the heat races before the 25 lap finale. Next Friday the POWRi Valley Outlaw Midgets will run at Valley. And on May 3rd the POWRi National Midgets will return to Missouri dirt track to run against the Valley regulars, and POWRi West.
