BELLEVILLE, ILL. (September 3, 2019) – Returning to the “Illini State” this weekend, a pair of memorial races will take center stage with the POWRi Lucas Oil National Midget League as the POWRi Engler Machine & Tool Outlaw Micros also come back to competition for the first time since July.
An annual pilgrimage to Jacksonville Speedway and Spoon River Speedway, this early September slate shines a spotlight on the Herb Barlow Memorial and Tom Knowles Memorial.
It all begins on Friday night at Jacksonville Speedway in Jacksonville, Ill. with the “Herb Barlow Memorial” for the POWRi Midgets, POWRi Micros and MOWA Sprint Cars.
With 37 previous appearances in the books, the late Bryan Clauson remains the winningest driver in POWRi Midget history at the Jacksonville quarter-mile with five triumphs to his name. Other stars such as Brad Kuhn, Brad Loyet, Tyler Thomas, Christopher Bell and Logan Seavey have racked up three victories at the Morgan County facility.
Along with the POWRi National Midgets, Friday’s trip to Jacksonville marks the return of the POWRi Engler Machine & Tool Outlaw Micro League. Racing for the first time since July 13, the Micros will be back to battling as Joe B. Miller currently leads the point standings ahead of Gunner Ramey (-60) and Riley Goodno (-540).
On Saturday night, the Micros head home while the Midgets are alone on the slate for the “Tom Knowles Memorial” at Spoon River Speedway. In 13 trips to the Canton, Ill. 3/8th-mile, 13 different winners have risen to the top with Zeb Wise most recently scoring his first-career POWRi National Midget win in last year’s Tom Knowles Memorial.
