Close Competition Fuels POWRi WAR Drivers Entering 2020

Belleville, IL. (3/9/2020) For the POWRi Lucas Oil WAR Sprint League, 2019 competition would bring out the best among the entrants. Drivers would dual week in and week out, always putting on a show for the spectators in hard-fought battles getting into the top positions. Although there can only be one crowned champion at the end of the season, the drivers finishing second, third, and fourth in the points battle require a little reflection on their racing achievements from 2019.

Finishing second in the closest points battle in POWRi WAR history wasn’t enough for the driver of the Sawyer Racing, 410 Patriot, Boss Chassis, Hugh’s Brother’s, VP Racing, Empire Energy, Vehicles Unlimited, Sprint Lawn Care, Outdoor Custom Creations #28, Kory Schudy. Hauling from Springfield Missouri, Schudy seemed to shine when the spotlights were cast on him. Gaining his first-ever feature victory in just his second night of competition at the 8th Annual Open Wheel Showdown at Lucas Oil Speedway as well as winning the Lake Ozark Non-Wing Nationals in Eldon Missouri. Throughout the season that would see Schudy earn Rookie of the Year Honors, Kory garnered two high point qualifier awards, a pair of heat race victories, eleven Top 5’s, and fifteen Top 10’s in his seventeen starts. Focusing on open-wheel competition for 2020, including seeing some action in Florida already this year, Schudy plans to improve by one spot this season in WAR Sprints standings. With a single thought on the Sawyer-Schudy Racing team’s mind, 2020 is shaping up to be another stellar year for the POWRi Lucas Oil WAR Sprint League.

Calling Nixa, Missouri home Wesley Smith, the driver of the iconic #12 Helm Racing, HRE 410, Eagle Chassis, WSR, TechNet Automotive Services, Schure Built Suspensions, All Metal Recycling, TRC Lawn Care entry would finish in the third position in the points battle, securing his spot in the final point’s race. Picking up six heat race victories in 2019, Wesley would also wheel his way to two hard charger accolades, a single high point qualifier award, five Top 5’s, and seven Top 10’s. Accumulating a pair of feature victories, Wesley first won at Double-X Speedway in our annual “Tribute to Jesse” and again on Night #1 of the Lake Ozark Speedway Non-Wing Nationals. For the upcoming 2020 season, Smith plans on simply racing as much as possible, solidifying his name among the nation’s best open-wheel talents, and try to continually improve his stats, all the while chasing after that prestigious top spot with the POWRi Lucas Oil WAR Sprint League.

For the wheelman with the most wins all-time with the POWRi Lucas Oil WAR Sprint League, Korey Weyant would continue to be a dominant force on the dirt-oval earning his 14th career WAR win at Tri-City Speedway. Springfield Illinois native Weyant #99 would drive the familiar 410 Automotive Machine, Eagle Chassis, Webble’s Bar and Grill, Mahan Fiberglass, Tossti’s Transmission, Goldseberry Designs, K-Weyant Custom Paint, Energy Petroleum, Moor Automotive, Horcher Bro’s Photography hotrod to thirteen Top 10’s-five finishes by way of Top 5 runs, five heat race wins, three hard charger awards and two high point qualifier accolades within his seventeen feature starts. Looking towards the future of our sport with family on the mind Korey plans to focus on launching his son’s racing career, and possibly compete in a few races close to home for the upcoming season. Not quite officially hanging up the classic “Mo-hawk” racing helmet only Weyant knows what’s in store for the 2017 POWRi WAR and POWRi Wildcard Champion, will 2020 see Korey back after another championship title with the POWRi Lucas Oil WAR Sprint League?
