Belleville, IL. (04/28/2020) Battling tooth and nail for every lap of the POWRi Midget iRacing League’s feature event at Lanier National Raceplex on Tuesday Night, drivers of all disciplines would lay it all on the line in hopes of digital honor and real-life bragging rights. When the final checkers were shown #09 Daison Pursley once again would claim the top spot for Team TUHB.
Great racing action would pack the Georgia clay of Lanier to perfection as over sixty POWRi Midget iRacing competitors would stake their claim just across the street from Road America. As early green flag battling would set the stage for late-race dramatics, a blanket could be thrown over the field with pole-sitter #4 Robert Daly appearing to be the head of the field. That was until mid-race slip-up on the restart by Dalby would once again bunch the field, leaving Dalby’s slider-fest dancing partner #52 Aiden Purdue with the lead. Purdue would maintain the point for several attempts at the green and with the field not cooperating behind them, Aiden and runner-up driver #09 Daison Pursely would battle back to the start/finish stripe. Pursley would edge Purdue with a high-side run off four by mere inches, gaining the lead as the competitors once again would restack. Once the green flag would show though up-front racing would again emerge as Pursley held the top of the track, #7 Jacob Denney would show that the inside line was quicker. Daison, maintaining composure under pressure, would adapt accordingly and adjust his line in the closing laps riding the bottom grove to his second straight POWRi Midget iRacing League feature victory. Denney would maintain his runner-up positioning as #47 Riley Emig would turn heads with an impressive run from starting 20th to rounding out the podium. Emerson Axsom #42 continues with consistency placing fourth with hot-shoe #49 Anton Hernandez fifth.
Continuing with the trend of previous racing events, several heat races and last chance qualifiers were required to set the eventual field of 24 feature competitors. The six heat race winners were: #4 Robert Dalby who also had fast time on the night at 14.394 seconds, #42 Emerson Axsom, #52 Aiden Purdue, #09 Daison Pursley, #21 Karter Sarff, and #9 James Tiernan. Drivers finishing outside the Top 3 in heat race action failed to outright qualify for the night’s feature race and would try to earn their way in another way with a run of last chance qualifiers. With #12 Joel Rayborne the D-Feature winner, C-Feature winner #49 Anton Hernandez would amaze all with an incredible run into the feature’s top five, and #83 Chance Crum would earn the B-Feature win.
Next up for the POWRi Midget iRacing League on Tuesday, May 5th is the final stop of the season, as the infamous banking of Eldora Speedway beckons.
