Belleville, IL. (08/03/2020) The POWRi Lucas Oil Minn-Kota Lightning Sprints would embark on a two-night race weekend spanning from River Cities Speedway in Grand Forks ND to Red River Valley Speedway in West Fargo, ND. With feature action close and highly contested at both events, the MKLS would not disappoint as Dexter Dvergsten and Alex Truscinski would both claim feature wins.
First, on Friday the POWRi Minn-Kota Lightning Sprints would have a date with speed at River Cities Speedway. Better known as "the bullring" by sprint car fans around the country and always seeming to provide great racing action on the high banked 4/10-mile, multi-grooved, track. Thirteen Minn-Kota Lightning Sprints signed in to do battle as Dexter Dvergsten and Cody Swenson would win their respective heat races.
The feature victory went to Dvergsten who continues to keep the pressure on point leader Kelsi Pederson. Pederson would score a runner-up finish to Dvergsten with Alex Truscinski, Cody Swenson, and Alex Truscinski rounding out the event’s top-five. Alex Truscinski would mount an impressive performance from not able to make the call in the heat race, to starting at the rear of the field, and by the time the checkers had fallen Alex had raced his way to a solid 3rd place showing.
Then, on Saturday night the POWRi Lucas Oil Minn-Kota Lightning Sprints headed south 75 miles, making a return visit to the Red River Valley Speedway in West Fargo, ND. Set to do battle at the always fast and smooth 3/8-mile speedway, there was a great turnout of fifteen lightning sprints checking into the speedway. A young up-and-comer, Garrison Miller would make his lightning sprint debut coming out of the legend series and hold his own behind the wheel in the new class.
With the POWRi Minn-Kota Lightning Sprints taking to the track first starting off the night of racing, heat race wins would go to Alan Truscinski & Kelsi Pederson. A feature redraw would put Alex Truscinski on the pole and looked to keep the momentum going from Friday night by storming out to an early lead. Truscinski wouldn’t run away with the feature by any means as a late-race caution flew bunching up the field for a sprint to the finish. Truscinski would be tested as he held off a hard-charging Dvergsten and claimed the feature win at the Red River Valley Speedway.
This weekend the POWRI Lucas Oil Minn-Kota Lightning Sprints have a race weekend off but encourage our members to support the NLSA lightning sprint race in Greenbush on Saturday. The next event for the POWRi MKLS will be Friday, August 14th at River Cities Speedway in Grand Forks, ND.
