Belleville, IL. (08/24/2020) Coming off an outstanding weekend of racing action that would witness side by side quests at two separate venues, the POWRi Lucas Oil Minn-Kota Lightning Sprints are primed and ready for a “Bonus-Weekend of Speed” as two premier racing facilities have stepped up payout and starting incentives. Setting the stage for two-nights of speed-packed adrenaline on Saturday, August 29th at Greenbush Race Park and Sunday, August 30th at Sheyenne Speedway.
The POWRI Lucas Oil Minn-Kota Lightning Sprints would tackle the fast three-eighth- mile Red River Valley Speedway for the final time in the 2020 race season this past weekend. Series point leader Kelsi Pederson would grab a heat race win to start the night on a positive note however Pederson would suffer an unfortunate redraw and started much farther back than her closest competitor in the point chase.
Alex Truscinski was on a mission throughout the night as he took the lead from the pole position, never relinquishing the top spot and winning the feature. It was certainly a great turn of event for Truscinski as the last time he was on the track he was involved in a wreck and the #10 car had to be completely rebuilt. “It’s exciting to see the hard work of the #10 team pay off and put the Altoz machine back in victory lane” Truscinski would note after his winning efforts. Points leader Kelsi Pederson suffered a mechanical failure and surrendered several points on the night, making the close points battle even tighter.
Pederson was not the only one suffering a mechanical failure as rookie lighting sprint driver Jake Haugeberg brought out a stoppage in the race when his #24 machine had an oil fire on the back straightaway that would take him out of the event. Rounding out the top five behind Alex Truscinski were Dexter Dvergsten, Alan Truscinski, Jason Berg & Bryce Haugeberg.
Saturday night the POWRi Lucas Oil Minn-Kota Lightning Sprints would head back north to Greenbush Minnesota to battle on the fast and high banking of Greenbush Race Park. New series point leader Dexter Dvergsten would be in dominating form all night claiming both a heat race victory as well as the feature win on the extremely fast and tacky track. By taking home the hardware from another feature win, Dvergsten has given notice that he will be a force to be reckoned with for the rest of the year in the very tight points battle for the championship honors. Podium finishers were Dexter Dvergsten, Alex Truscinski, and Alan Truscinski.
Next up for the POWRI Minn-Kota Lightning Sprints is a doubleheader weekend with a lightning sprint special on tap. First up is Saturday, August 29th back at the home venue of Greenbush Race Park for a $400 to win payout. Increased payout throughout the feature has also been added as a guarantee of $90 to start has also been added. Then, on Sunday, August 30th the POWRi MKLS visit Sheyenne Speedway for the first time this season also adding bonus money adding to the marquee weekend for the POWRi Lucas Oil Minn-Kota Lightning Sprint Series.
