Belleville, IL. (10/19/2020) Navigating various setbacks in 2020, such as Covid-19 and some inclement weather issues, the POWRi Lucas Oil Minn-Kota Lightning Sprints would persevere through their first series season with outstanding on-track action throughout their twenty-two points-race season at five separate northern tracks. Stretching through two states of competition, the POWRi MKLS season championship would come down to the wire with the final race dictating the eventual series winner. As the final checkers waved the ever-consistent and always-contending Dexter Dvergsten, of Greenbush Minnesota, would emerge as the 2020 Points Champion.
Starting in all twenty-two feature events, Dvergsten would top the field in a series-leading eight feature victories in 2020. Separating himself from the other competitors throughout the season with twenty-one top-ten performances, marking only one race where Dexter finished outside the top-five.
When asked about the premier year un the POWRi banner, Dexter would jokily remark; "It went better than expected." Going on to note, "I'd definitely like to thank all the tracks for giving us a place to race and a series to travel with.” Primed for a future Lightning Sprint Championship repeat, Dvergsten would humbly maintain, “I’m looking to continue my success from this year, shoot for a few more wins and maybe pick up my third championship next year if the schedule is friendly enough to do so."
Marking his ninth season racing a lightning sprint Dexter Dvergsten remains a top talent in the industry with a laid back and patient yet not overly aggressive driving style. Having a knack for reading track conditions while being able to set up his care for success, Dexter has earned thirty-three career lightning sprint feature wins, four Greenbush Race Park Track Championships, a single Northern Lightning Sprint Association points championship, and now this year’s POWRi Minn-Kota Lightning Sprint points championship. Counting wins in two countries (US and Canada) and in three states (Minnesota, North Dakota, and Kansas), Dvergsten has said his goal is to make it to fifty feature wins in his race career. Seeming to be on the right path to reaching this milestone Dexter remains the atop the field of POWRi Lucas Oil Minn-Kota Lightning Sprint competitors.
