Belleville, IL. (10/19/2020) Finishing out the complicated 2020 racing season in perhaps the best race of the year, the POWRi Lucas Oil Southwest Lighting Sprints would once again tackle their home-racing track of Barona Speedway in Lakeside, California on October 17th with a nail-biting finish for the ages. Pacing the field to perfection, David Bezio would grab his first career POWRi SWLS feature victory in dramatic fashion.
Caution-free was the theme Saturday with the POWRi Lucas Oil Southwest Lighting Sprints as no stoppages in racing action was needed throughout the competition. With a front-row made up of Sexton-Gatlin Teammates, #18 Dalton Sexton, and #37 David Bezio, flaking each other, the pair would fly into racing action with Bezio grabbing the lead on the opening lap. Dalton would make a run on the leading Bezio as the laps kept ticking away with lap traffic impeding the front-running pair.
With David Bezio setting the tempo, Dalton Sexton would valiantly stalk the leader. Running nose-to-tail nearly all race Dalton would patiently wait until the final lap to mount a side-by-side charge. With slower cars in the preferred running line, the battle up-front was intensified off turn four running towards the checkers. Bezio would outrun Dalton to the line earning his career first POWRi SWLS feature victory. Dalton Sexton would place a remarkably close second with previous event’s winner Brent Sexton #44 rounding out the fast-paced podium.
POWRi Lucas Oil Southwest Lightning Sprints would also like to thank their 2020 sponsors Sexton Fire Protection, Victory Graphix, United Cleaning Company, Express Pipe & Supply Santee, BK Wings.
