Belleville, IL. (12/12/2020) Over fifty of the top digital and reality midget competitors would log-in for the inaugural POWRi Midget iNationals presented by LSRTV on December 12th. Drivers were allowed an Open Setup, with a single Fast-Repair available, running the World of Thunder Rules as well as the iRacing Sporting Code in full effect at the virtual realms of Fairbury Speedway for the forty-lap main event, with Evan Seay using precise driving to take the event and pocket the big-payday.
Through a pair of lone-qualifying laps used to set the heat race lineups, #33 Evan Seay was able to pocket the bonus Beast Racing Quick-Time Award with a 13.172-second lap-time during qualifying. Five heat races, at eight laps each, were required with the top-three finishers automatically advancing into the A-Main. Heat Race winners were #33 Evan Seay, #07 Alex Bergeron, #127 Blake Matjoulis, #14 JD Brown, and #40 Chase McDermand.
Tight racing and an abundance of entries would see an excess of alphabet-soup action hit the virtual racing surfaces of Fairbury American Legion Speedway, as the dramatic ten-lap D-Feature would be won by a deep starting #39 Aiden Purdue. C-Feature racing would witness twelve edge-of-the-seat laps with the advantage again going to Purdue on a daring last-lap pass. Keeping the momentum flowing, fourteen laps of B-Feature racing would see #014 Jake Erickson survive by racing their way to the front and into the POWRi Midget iNationals showcase event.
With a full field of twenty top-notch competitors racing their way into the feature, forty laps would determine the inaugural winner of the POWRi Midget iNationals with Seay and Bergeron making up the front row. After an outstanding four-wide salute to the digital viewers, the field would launch as an inside line would prevail on the initial lap with Seay leading the pack. Evan Seay would show the fastest line around Fairbury, leading handily for the first half of the feature as the field sliced and diced behind the leader for position. Low-line momentum would benefit a fast Blake Matjoulis and Brennan Rogers with both drivers edging towards the front, as a high-side running Alex Bergeron and JD Brown tried to maintain a top-five positioning.
In a dominating fashion, Evan Seay would lead every circuit of the feature, sweeping the night and gaining the $1000 payday. Gaining ground late using a diamonding-line, the high-side hustling Alex Bergeron would finish the event in the runner-up position as Blake Matjoulis rounded out the podium in a solid showing of wheelwork in just his second career midget event.
“I didn’t know what to expect going into the feature, I was hoping the bottom held and it did. Having someone like Alex behind you is tough late in the race, but we were able to pull away in the last ten laps and get the win for the team” an extremely excited Evan Seay would comment as the celebrations commenced.
