Belleville, IL. (07/5/2021) Celebrating Independence Weekend in a two-day Centennial State swing with stops at Phillips County Raceway and I-76 Speedway, the Lucas Oil POWRi Rocky Mountain Lightning Sprints would put on their own fireworks display of sorts with outstanding open-wheel action. Battling the six-race series winning streak of Johnny Boos into the weekend, competitors would soar to the challenges as Josh Flood would pick up both feature wins.
Early racing action at Phillips County Speedway on July 2nd would find Josh Flood and Andy Flood both claim heat victories resulting in an all-Flood front-row for the feature event. With Flood flaking Flood on the initial green flag start for the feature the inside line of Josh Flood would prevail, taking the early lead in a close-knit-kin battle.
Remaining close-quartered racing lap after lap the POWRi RMLS would put on a dazzling display of driving with Josh Flood capturing his first series feature victory as well as snapping the series-winning-streak of Johnny Boos in the process. Charging from starting fourth would find Josiah King quickly on the heals of the Floods, overtaking Andy Flood on a restart to finish runner-up.
Late-race dramatics would occur as caution flags would bunch the field together for a restart resulting in Johnny Boos being penalized for passing before the start. Post-Race penalties would place Andy Flood third and hard-charger Brady Balderson fourth, with Boos docked two positions to round out the Phillips County Speedway feature top-five for the Lucas Oil POWRi Rocky Mountain Lightning Sprints.
Then the very next night at I-76 Speedway, in Holyoke Colorado, Flood would aim to continue winning momentum with heat races claimed by Josh Flood and Johnny Boos. As Flood and Boos made up the front-row pacing the field on the initial start, all eyes were on the top-pair once racing commenced.
Josh Flood would not be denied over the racing weekend, flying out to the early lead establishing himself as the driver to beat in both nights of competition. Flood would pocket his second-straight feature win with a very quick Boos in hot-pursuit finishing second with Blair Cooper in the hunt for the front all-event placing third.
Hard-charger Josiah King would mount a great race by cruising from starting eighth to finish fourth, as Andy Flood continues to ride the wave of consistent finishing rounding out the top-five at I-76 Speedway with the Lucas Oil POWRi Rocky Mountain Lightning Sprints.
